Roscrea Tidy Towns News September 2010

Results Due!

Any day now the results of the National Tidy Towns Competition will be appearing in our newspapers, both national and local.  The results generally appear first in the national editions but the local papers carry much more detail and we in Tidy Towns do hope that you take the time to analyse what the judges had to say about Roscrea.

Please do not get carried away by the way Roscrea is looking recently as, while the peoples efforts are much better than usual, the town is looking superb with the addition of the county hurling colours, which of course would not have appeared in time for the judges.

We look forward with anticipation to seeing our markings in this years competition over the coming days and fingers crossed we will all have something to smile about.

Volunteers

If you like doing Tidy Towns work on your own that great. But if you would prefer to be with the main Tidy Towns group, they meet at Rosemary Fountain just before 10a.m. on Saturday mornings and also at 7.30p.m. on Wednesday evenings from where volunteers will be taken to wherever work is taking place.  You will receive a very warm welcome from the Tidy Towns committee and their regular volunteers.

Let's keep the main objective in mind. We have only one month of the three months of potential judging behind us. Granted, as you have probably already heard, we had some awful abuse of our work recently when some vandals decided that they should pull down the potted plants etc and tear up some lovely floral arrangements – all the work of local people who have been out regularly doing voluntary work for their town only to find that these rowdies have this inner wish that comes out late at night when they have enough alcohol consumed.

Here and now we would ask them to end this mindless vandalism and we ask the Gardai to ensure that they have enough patrols to safeguard the great work of our citizens as well as that of Tidy Towns members.

We would also urge people in the liquour trade to make sure that these rowdies are not customers of theirs, which they could be – directly or indirectly!

After all, this town is ours and should be respected at all times of the year.  Roscrea peoples work deserves Roscrea's respect!

Please keep up the good work.
