Congratulations to Theresa Larking who together with her “School Of Music” and invited guests raised over €4000.00 at a special fundraising concert on Sunday last in aid of “The Laurels” at the Dean Maxwell Home.

The money was raised at a wonderful concert which took place at the Racket Hall Hotel featuring the very best of local and national talent. Dancing, singing, music and even some comedy all featured on a night that was attended by over three hundred people.

The evening commenced with the Theresa Larkin School Of Music featuring many of the most gifted young musicians from the local area. They were followed by Dr Mary Ryan and the Silvermines Choir from Nenagh who all gave excellent performances. The ever popular “Amadeus” performed before the interval and the singers and musicians included, Theresa Larkin (Roscrea), Kathleen Costello (Nenagh), Sheelagh Chadwick (Nenagh), Ann Marie Dwan (Thurles), Mary Rose Dwan (Thurles) and Elizabeth McCartin from Kinnitty.

Unfortunately Frank Naughton who was due to perform at the concert, fell ill on the day before the event and was unable to attend. Top of the bill for the evening was therefore “Darragh McGann” from Cork, a very talented singer who is beginning to establish himself as a household name after a number of recent television appearances. The larger than life singer enthralled a captivated audience for almost an hour and humoured his newest fan base with wonderful stories from his illustrated past. The last minute replacement proved to be a great sensation and his powerful voice will be remembered for a long time by those in attendance. Darragh was accompanied by the very graceful and incredibly talented, Munster “Irish Dancing” champion, Edel Lawless. Edel will compete in the World “Irish Dancing” Championships which will take place in Glasgow in a few weeks time and all those that enjoyed her performance in Roscrea on Sunday last will be wishing her well at the big event. Darragh rounded of a most memorable and entertaining evening by calling all the members of the “Theresa Larkin School Of Music” back on stage for a grand finale that also involved many from the enthusiastic audience as they all joined together to sing the Neil Diamond Classic “Sweet Caroline” which had the concert venue buzzing with excitement as the curtain came down on another triumphant fundraising campaign by Theresa and friends.

Over the past few years Theresa Larkin with the help of her friends, family and fellow musicians/singers has helped raise almost €30,000.00 for Charitable Causes such as Dean Maxwell, Bru Columbanus University Hospital Cork, St Anne’s Roscrea, Friends of Chernobyl and St.Vincent de Paul. A big thank you to all those who contributed to these events and a special word of thanks to all those who helped or contributed in anyway towards last Sunday’s success. Without the support of the general public and the goodwill of all those willing to showcase their talents, events like this would not be possible. Well done to all concerned.
