Large Attendance For Roscrea Hurling Club AGM
A large crowd gathered at St Cronan’s Park on Sunday afternoon last for the AGM of Roscrea Hurling Club. Chairman Kevin Brady welcomed everyone and reflected upon what was a very busy year for the club before outlining his plans and ambitions for the club’s future. The Chairman said that 2009 was a very rewarding and educational year for the newly appointed officers of the club. He reflected on the successful information and recruitment evening that the club hosted last spring. From that meeting, he said that a number of committees were put in place and since then a lot of effort has been made to restructure the club and make it more professional in its approach to matters both on and off the field.
The Chairman then reflected upon the good, the bad and the ugly of Roscrea Hurling Club. In a very honest, hard hitting address the Chairman pulled no punches when he said interference in teams by outside parties and ill discipline by so called supporters would be no longer tolerated. On a more positive note the Chairman said he was heartened by the tremendous goodwill and spirit that exists in the club. He informed the meeting that a team of professionals were now engaged in working on development plans that will hopefully see refurbishment work commence on the pavilion in the near future. The Chairman complimented all teams and mentors for their efforts during the year and in particular he congratulated the Juvenile Committee led by Seamus Doran and Rody Ryan who he said work tirelessly throughout the year to help ensure that the club will have a great future.
The Chairman spoke about the importance of fundraising and he encouraged people to get involved in the fundraising committee. In this regard, the Chairman thanked the lotto committee which is flanked by the treasurer, Paul Phelan for their great work every week. The Chairman then thanked all the committees that made a positive contribution to the club. He thanked the Club PRO, Brian King for leading the Promotion IT and Communications Committee and he reserved his final praise for the hard working Secretary Proinnsias Loughnane. In conclusion, the Chairman congratulated all those in the club that passed exams or got married during the year. The Chairman then offered his sympathies to the families of those that suffered bereavements during the year. Finally the Chairman thanked Roscrea Credit Union who he described as a tremendous sponsor and congratulated them for all the great work they do in Roscrea and the surrounding areas.
Secretary Proinnsias Loughnane gave an excellent review of the year and how all Roscrea Teams from minor to senior level performed. The Secretary thanked the players and selectors in all grades for their efforts during the year. The Secretary then urged the senior and junior players especially, to support the Club Lotto, by signing up to the direct debit scheme in the credit union. The Secretary said that this year, only eight players subscribed, and when one considers the number of players between Minor, U21, Junior and Senior, he said that this figure is alarming to say the least. The Secretary then appealed to all players to pay their membership as soon as possible next year. The Secretary concluded by saying he was looking forward to what promises to be a very successful year for the club in 2010.
The Club Treasurer Paul Phelan gave a very detailed report on the club finances. Paul emphasised the importance of the Lotto and said that while the Lotto was a great success, other revenue mechanisms would have to be investigated in order to keep the club in a healthy financial position. The Treasurer said a number of options will be considered in the near future and will be discussed at upcoming meetings of the executive.
The election on officers then took place. Kevin Brady was reelected Chairman as was Proinnsias Loughnane in the Secretary’s role and Paul Phelan as treasurer. Brendan Carey said he was happy to continue in his role as Vice Chairman and Brian King after outlining the success and the plans for the Promotion, IT and Communications Committee agreed to continue his role as PRO. Seamus Doran will continue as Assistant Secretary with Hugh McDonnell staying as County Board Delegate and Dan Kennedy, North Board Delegate. Subscription officers Kevin Moloney and Patsy Carroll were applauded for their endeavors and it is envisaged that both will continue in these important roles.
Finally, all supporters were asked to attend the “Year In The Red Launch” which will take place on this Friday the 4th of December at 8pm in the Damer Court Hotel. A very exciting night is in store including the launch of the magazine, “A Year In The Red” the presentation of medals to the U12 North Plate winners and the presentation of medals to the U16 team that were finalists in the North Championship this year. The club will also present six awards to people that have offered great service to the Club over the years. Music will also be performed and at approximately 9.30pm the Club will host a quiz in which it is hoped that as many supporters of the club as possible in the area will come out and support.
