At a very well attended function in the clubhouse on Sunday last a photographic collage was unveiled by Peter Reid. The collage is dedicated to two founder members of the club Mr H.M Read and Dr Joseph Wallace.

The current President Norman Carter and a number of past President’s of Roscrea Rugby Club were delighted to be present at the Clubhouse on Sunday evening last with the families of HM Read and DR Joseph Wallace who both served the club with distinction in the past.

Harry Read was the first President of the club when it was founded in 1950 and was also President in 1955/56. Joe Wallace was a Vice-President in 1950.

The Read family were delighted to be part of the celebrations at Roscrea Rugby Club on Sunday evening last when HM Read together with Dr Joseph Wallace were honoured with a specially commissioned photographic collage to honour their service to the club in times past. HM Read was the first President of Roscrea Rugby Club.

Both men had distinguished rugby careers. They were capped for Ireland and each in turn became President of the IRFU.

HM Read was President in 1955/56 and performed the official opening of the west stand in Lansdowne Road on December 31st 1955. He gained thirteen caps between 1910 and 1913 while playing with Trinity College Rugby Football Club.
Joseph Wallace played with Wanderers RFC and was capped 10 times between 1905 and 1906. He and his brother James went on the Lions Tour to South Africa in 1903 and played in three test matches.

The Wallace family were delighted to be part of the celebrations at Roscrea Rugby Club on Sunday last to honour Dr Joseph Wallace who served the club with great commitment and enthusiasm in the past.

Alfie Clarke was MC for the occasion and he first of all introduced Roscrea Club President, Norman Carter who welcomed all the guests particularly the representation of the Read and Wallace families. Mrs Mabel Wallace spoke on behalf of the Wallace family and thanked the Club for honouring her father-in-law, Dr Jospeh Wallace saying that both herself and the rest of the Wallace family were delighted and honoured that Roscrea Rugby Club were paying tribute to Joe.

Peter Read then unveiled the collage and stated that both men had left a legacy that the Rugby Club could be proud of. He said that there were very few clubs who could claim two IRFU presidents as members and he thanked Roscrea for honouring his father. Peter concluded by congratulating Brian Redmond on the wonderful collage that he had created.
